Ann Arbor, MI, September 19, 2019 – Leveraging Xoran’s core imaging technology, the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI), through the Small Business Initiative Research (SBIR) project, Xoran received a grant focused on integrated intraoperative imaging with surgical navigation.
Xoran Technologies, LLC announces that it is receiving funding from the National Cancer Institute, including approximately $4M of research and development funds, with $4M of additional matching funds from external investors, Decathlon Capital Partners.
“Minimally invasive approaches are a significant advancement in neurosurgery, reducing complications and shortening recovery periods,” stated Xoran CTO William van Kampen. “By combining real-time imaging and guided surgical tools, we intend to improve visualization and accuracy to help make these procedures safer and more widely available.”
As the pioneer and market leader in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) since 2001, Xoran recently released xCAT IQ™, a compact, mobile CT scanner with high-resolution cranial imaging. With zero-degree turning maneuvers, an open design, and the ability to scan on battery back-up, xCAT IQ fits into tight spaces and is easy-to-use.
“With Xoran’s truly mobile xCAT IQ for brain and bone imaging, Xoran has provided an excellent imaging solution specifically designed for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Operating Room (OR),” said Xoran CEO Misha Rakic. “The benefits to stroke and traumatic brain injury patients cannot be overstated. Access to a low dose, affordable yet highly portable imaging system, means that patients can be treated more quickly, more accurately, and more comfortably. In the future, early stroke detection both in the Emergency Room (ER) and through telemedicine in rural, suburban, and urban areas—aided by artificial intelligence (AI) —will allow for improved outcomes and reduced hospital stays.”
The three-year project involves meeting technical milestones of system development, including imaging capability, registration, navigation accuracy, speed, workflow, radiation dose considerations, and cost.
