About the Speaker:
After completing veterinary school Dr. Berning relocated to southeast Michigan and worked as a small animal general practice veterinarian. Realizing her passion for dentistry and oral surgery, she began working with board-certified veterinary dentists in the spring of 2013 and started a residency program later that year under the guidance of Ruth E. Barthel, DVM, FAVD, Dipl. AVDC. She spent 4 years working alongside veterinary dentists, and gained exposure to a variety of diagnostics, techniques, and knowledge. This included a balance of visiting dental referral practices around the country and working in a dentistry-exclusive referral practice. Dr. Berning has taken numerous advanced oral surgery courses, offered by joint teams of veterinary dentists and veterinary surgeons. She has completed clinical hours with oral surgeons, periodontists, and a dental radiologist on the human-side, and enjoys comparative dentistry. Dr. Berning recently finished an original research project using cone-beam CT, an advanced diagnostic imaging modality used commonly in human dentistry.
